I expect most people will agree that “Time on Task” is of extreme importance toward their success, or lack of, at whatever they do. When two people are very well qualified to do a job, the time they have to spend at the job should make a big difference in how successful the school board will be. It doesn’t take long to learn the responsibilities of a school board member, and what their responsibilities are, but it takes “time” to research varieties of issues. Simply stated, there are more ways than one to skin cats or taxpayers.
Mr. Gene Donaghy has been on the Northern Wells school board for 12 years. Some of us like what he has done, and some of us are interested in some changes. Mr. Donaghy also serves, in various capacities, on over a dozen other organizations. Is there “time” enough to properly serve our school board, too?
Mary Ann Ripperger has served Northern Wells Schools in various capacities for the past 27 years. The last 18 years she has been the Treasurer and Administrative Assistant for Business Affairs under Mike Sailsbery. She has also assured us that she will listen to the people; and spend all of the “time” needed to work for the school board.
One change that would probably be very helpful could be a change in the meeting rules. Change the rules back to where we felt welcome at the meetings. The rules used by the Bluffton schools are excellent. Also, changing the times of the meetings to 5:30 PM eliminated the opportunity for many working people to attend.
Are we right when we believe the school board serves the people? The people have a right to be heard and listened to. Don’t make up your minds with information from just one source -- whether you are voting “for” a board member or making “decisions” as a school board member.
